About Ian

Ian started Top Drawer Holidays 5 years ago to compliment his long-standing, online wedding gift list service, The Bottom Drawer. As so many couples setup a gift list to let their friends and family buy parts of their honeymoon as wedding gifts, it was a natural extension. Today Ian travels widely, researching holiday destinations and hotels all over the world. Ian actually started his career as an engineer, though after graduation he joined accountancy firm KPMG, qualifying as the best accountant in the UK in his year! But planning the perfect holiday is much more rewarding than counting numbers.

Ian on travel: I think travel is in my DNA!. As soon as I finished university I backpacked across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, I still love independent travel (I’ve also trekked the Inca Trail in Peru) though as I’ve got older I’ve started to appreciate more luxury and comfort in my trips abroad! In my role in travel I’ve been lucky enough to visit a lot of hotels round the world to see what they can offer our customers. My obsession with hotels even spills into my own personal holidays: I often ask hotel managers to let me see all the room types in the hotels I holiday in, all in the name of research!

Perfect holiday: Tough one, but I think that would be a catamaran sailing trip around the Seychelles. I can just imagine diving off the back of the boat into the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean and swimming up onto a white, sandy beach. Then ending the day with a gourmet barbecue under the stars!

Funny fact about Ian: Ian actually spent a whole week on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast with Johnny Vaughan and Denise Van Outen, as one of their “Friends” of the week! Here he is with Johnny Vaughan looking pretty daft (and a few years younger too!) in the crash helmet.
